I needed to keep the kids entertained for a hour and this did the trick nicely. All I had to say was "we're making a stew. Let's find some ingredients" and they ran with it. Miss 3 found 'ingredients' all over the yard and Digger seemed keen to stir. I was thoroughly entertained by Miss 3's rendition of 'Wombat Stew' which she sang while cooking.
Sometimes it's best to make do with what you have. That pile of bricks used to be a broken BBQ which Daddy and I turned into a funny looking bench. Using our imaginations, we transformed this seldom-used corner of our yard into an outdoor play kitchen.
I was expecting there to be fights and frustration over having to share but they collaborated swimmingly, which was lovely to watch. Dramatic play is Miss 3's forte and Lil' Digger would bathe himself in mud if he knew it was possible so no wonder this was a hit with both of them.
In the end, it was decided that they were actually making a birthday cake and we all sang happy birthday to Miss 3 who is ever so eager to be Miss 4.

I've been meaning to get some bit together for my little one to have in her new home as an outdoor kitchen - what a great incentive to get op-shopping for some old pots and equipment! thank-you!
