When Dean and I found out we were expecting a second child we were slightly concerned about how any baby could live up to our expectations. Our first was pretty great and it was hard to imagine loving another anywhere near as much as we love her. How could we? I knew it was possible but I didn't feel it. Twelve months in and we are just as smitten as we were the first time around. Not a huge surprise really, just a bit of a relief - 'Phew, we have two 'perfect' kids. Who'd've thunk it?'
On Sunday, this friendly little fellow turned one. Here is a sneak peak at how we celebrated.
There was no need for more presents after he laid eyes on his first soccer ball.
We planned a small party with rice bubbles in tubs for some edible sensory play. The birthday boy eats everything so this is the safest way for him to dig. After Miss 3's all-consuming party, I'm afraid I slacked a bit on the decorations this time around.
But I did make a photo display of his first year including this charming shot from last week.
At one year old, Digger likes cars, balls, trying new foods, cuddles and kisses, music, eating handfuls of dirt and climbing. And boy can he climb! I don't know how many times I've had to say "No, I didn't put my baby in the toilet. He climbed in there himself!"
And what could be more fitting for our dirt loving boy than a 'digger cake' complete with crushed Oreo dirt.

How adorable he is, they both are. Love the display of photos of his firsts and the cake is awesome, but the most awesome of all is digger sitting in the toilet.
ReplyDeleteThanks, It sure has been an entertaining shot to share around.
DeleteLove it all :-)
ReplyDeleteThe rice bubble digging would have been a hit.
And I love what you did with the cake, Seth loves his diggers think i have been inspired to do a digging theme One of these years. What little man wouldn't love to dig into a cake like that!
Thanks Renee, It was really simple to make but the kids loved it :)
DeleteAh kids in the toilet... I know the feeling! LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your little man!
I just found your blog through a friend's recommendation. Having fun looking through your lovely posts. I love this Birthday cake! We watched an excavator work for almost an hour today until it just got too cold. This is happening for my little guy's 2nd Birthday. Thank you for sharing.
